Early Education Curriculum

Not just any curriculum, a ground breaking dynamic curriculum for Nursery Children brought to life in its very own web page. This revolutionary approach brings with it many advantages and possibilities for the school community.

Nursery

The basis of education

“The first child years are the formative years. Everything they learn at this time is of great importance for their future development.”

The nursery is the basis of the European School education. The teachers of the European School Karlsruhe use a curriculum based design in pre-school years.

In the so-called "European hours" different language activities are carried out. The multicultural atmosphere is used to promote specific areas

  • Creation of play-based learning and promotion of linguistic, mathematical and motor skills.
  • Creative learning through art and craft, theatre and language games, music and dance.
  • Learning through research: Nature studies and societies.
  • Strengthening of the social, ethical and emotional development of children.

An outdoor area with a play ground and a childrens village creates a sporty-creative atmosphere and stimulates role based playing in several languages.

In order to achieve this goal, it is very important to consider the personality in the development of the child. In nursery education the basic skills are acquired which are important for successful schooling.schließen

Teachers and Assistance

Each class in the nursery has a class teacher and an assistant. Both are valuable resources for the children.

After taking into account the predetermined objectives, each teacher has full responsibility for the organization of the nursery.

Pre-School and Parents

The Kindergarten of the European School Karlsruhe sees itself as the parents support. Close cooperation and information about the development of your child is needed and is encouraged.

tous dans le même bateau...
tous dans le même bateau...

The exchange takes place in one to one meetings or in joint sessions depending on one’s needs.

What can you do to support your child?

When it comes to your child`s education, parents should be the main partners for the nursery teachers. You know your child and its development from birth. You know what it likes and what it loves to do. You know its strengths and weaknesses.

For your child and its development, it is important to see that parents and the kindergarten team understand each other well. It helps the child to feel at ease and develop freely.

It is therefore important that we find a common framework for discussion.

You can support your child, in which you:

  • Agree on a suitable meeting time.
  • Have you any questions?
  • Take  part in kindergarten team meetings for the exchange of learning and the developmental progress of your child.
  • Take some time when collecting your child. We would love to show what your child has done during the day.

Use the kindergarten time, together with us, to prepare your child playfully and without pressure when going to school.schließen

Guidelines for the Nursery

Educational Principles

Children want to pursue the acquisition of skills and knowledge in order to become more independent and use opportunities to explore their world. Therefore they use everything they know. Anyone who has watched his child knows how proud it is, in reaching its goals. This pride is promoted by praise and is the basis for future readiness of the child,  even if it encounters difficulties and obstacles.

We support your child in the Kindergarten, so that:

  • It can trust its own abilities.
  • By testing its own abilities they can rely on the adult .
  • Adults and other children appreciate and trust its abilities.schließen

Education and Democracy

The social environment is very important for children. They depend on relationships and are willing to do something to keep them. They therefore continuously develop their social skills and work them out.

What is fair? What is unfair? What serves the community? What harms the community?

Happy birthday

Each child will be encouraged to learn

  • That with its knowledge and skills, it can contribute to the community;
  • That through its ideas and wishes it can contribute to the formation of the daily routine in the Kindergarten.
  • That rules for co-existence in the kindergarten are not fixed, but should rather be negotiated with the teachers and other children in the kindergarten.

The assessment of the learning process is based on a profile of obtained practices and capabilities, which are the conditions for admission to the primary school.schließen

Language sections

The Kindergarten has three language sections

  • German Section
  • French Section
  • English Section

A key task of the kindergarten is to strengthen the child`s native language and to build a foundation for successful, further schooling. We define a language as "native" which the child knows from birth, which it speaks and  in which it feels at home. Children who grow up bilingual, you as  parents can select the language department in kindergarten which your child will also use in primary school.

With the right language choice you give your child the opportunity to build solid friendships with other children and to acquire language skills needed for positive future schooling.

In addition there are currently native speakers for the following languages: Italian, Spanish, Polish, Finnish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Greek, Czech, Portuguese

The special role of language

Spoken and written language is in our society, the dominant medium in which we communicate, which we share and sort out knowledge. These who want to become knowledgable are dependent on communication skills. The first word that a child speaks, the first image it paints are important milestones on the way. Access to books and works of art, to media, his encounter with other languages, enrich his speech and promote his understanding for the co-existence of different cultures.

We create situations that demand from children communication relevant to the issue being discussed both with their peers and adults. The children are encouraged to follow conversations, expressing their opinion and to listen to others. This contributes to development of critical thinking.schließen

Outdoor area

Our kindergarten has a large outdoor area, which is very attractively designed. There are several playthings (a net swing, a lookout tower with a slide or play house). In a shed there are cars, wooden parts, plastic building blocks for building, sand playthings, balls, ropes etc.  which can be extracted as required.

Through extended opening hours our children can be up to seven hours a day in the kindergarten. It is therefore necessary, to plan a longer outdoor period. Since the outdoors can not be monitored from the inside, it is not possible to let a small group of children go outside alone. We mostly go out with the whole group.

Children have the chance, to develop in role playing games, to experiment, to practice skills such as sense of balance, racing, scooter driving etc. The teacher can therefore observe the behaviour of children, their independence, contact and conflict resolution, imagination, creativity, fine and gross motor skills. Through independent organisation children become independent and confident. Scientific experiments do arise by chance.

The outdoors also offer  a good chance to guide some children, to get them involved in a conversation, to play, to deepen the emotional contacts.

Sport games can be taught, new role play games should be encouraged.
