How to buy pupil meal-tickets

Between Monday and Thursday the school canteen daily offers a variety of meals:

  • a normal meal
  • a vegetarian meal
  • a soup
  • and a salad plate.

The menu varies widely and is made known on the notice board each week in advance.

Students can choose their canteen days according to their weekly time-table.

The cost of meals depend on the type of meal and the number of chosen days.

Meals are delivered by the catering firm APETITO.

The organisation of the canteen as a whole falls under the Canteen Committee. Freshness of food and the condition of cleanliness in the canteen is constantly checked by the appropriate authorities.

Meal-tickets are sold by the Canteen Committee only for a whole trimester at its commencement (September, December, April). Payment must be done in advance by bank transfer.

Detailed information regarding all dates and respective regulations is handed out to students well in advance.

Extra-mural activities

To complement the school curriculum the Parents Association organises and subsidises a number of courses, mainly of a sports and liberal arts nature. Participation is totally voluntary.

These courses ideally take place at the European School Karlsruhe at the end of classes.

Notification, registration and commencement of courses occur at the beginning of a new academic year.

Fees depend on the nature of the course. For member families fees range between € 40,- and € 60,- . The application form is for the application to the extra mural activities.

Only members of the Parents Association can make use of the extra mural activities.

In principle the Parents Association further subsidises these courses from its own funds over and above fees paid.

A minimum group size is a basic requirement for cost reasons and a maximum size may be required for practical reasons. Consequently, courses can be cancelled or the number of participants restricted.

Furthermore, each year a number of excursions, longer visits with overnight stays, student exchanges, outings to sites of European cultural heritage and much more are held. The Parents' Association contributes towards these financially and organisationally.

At the end of each school year a book sale takes place organised by the Parents' Association, during which students can buy books at reasonable costs from preceding classes.

Financial Support

Every year a great deal of excursions, youth hostel stays, pupil exchanges, visits of european places of culture and many more events are organised, to which the PA contributes through organisation and financing

Social events

In order to foster contact amongst the parents, between teachers and parents and ultimately between the different language sections social events are organised by the Parents' Association. The success of these depends primarily on the voluntary and active participation of the parents.

The main event for the school community as a whole is the Parents' Association's all-day summer fête. It takes place on the school premises and involves sports, recreational and musical presentations, as well as a beer-tent with stands offering a multitude of food, a tombola, games and a flea-market.

During the European Day held annually in the city-centre of Karlsruhe, the European School is represented, by students as well as by the Parents' Association.

The Welcome Party is held in September for the new arrivals of students and their families. This event is organised jointly by the Parents' Association and the teachers.

The individual language sections stage their own national celebrations, which all parents and students are invited to attend. One of the better known events is the annual Guy Fawkes Evening in November, complete with a huge bonfire, fire-works and culinary delicacies.

Many other occasions present themselves for classes to organise their own individual celebrations.

The cost for these events are normally covered by contributions, whereby the voluntary assistance of parents remains an important support.

Notification of all of these events is always done in advance.
