Entrance conditions

Transuranium Institute

There are three categories of pupils at the European Schools.

Category 1

Education is free for the children of employees of EU Institutions, including personnel of the Institut für Transurane here in Karlsruhe.

Category 2

A number of bodies, mainly multinational companies but also including other organisations, have signed special agreements. As a result children of employees of these companies have full admission rights.

In return the employer pays the full per capita cost.

Information about setting up such an agreement may be obtained from the European School Karlsruhe.

Category 3

The European School Karlsruhe also admits private pupils, circumstances permitting. Parents should be aware that places for private pupils are limited, there is intense competition, and very often a waiting list.

The level of school fees for these category 3 pupils is determined annually. Further details are available from the school administration.

The Land Baden-Württemberg grants the school a subsidy for school fees. For families with more than one child at the school the fees are reduced. In the case of financial hardship, fees may be reduced or waived altogether by decision of the Administrative Board of the European School Karlsruhe.

Applications

Applications should be accompanied by a completed application form, a birth certificate and a school report from the last school visited. Applications for class 1 of the primary school in the German section must be received by the end of February at the latest.
